Again she blinked in confusion. He was even offering to escort her back? This was strange, but not unwelcome. As much as she expected to be treated like a lady, it was rare she actually was. He was the first in quite a while, and she found it very delightful, possibly even charming. His looks meant nothing to her for the moment, she was just euphoric someone was being so kind to her..
A soft smile spread across her face. Not the scheming, sly smile that she usually wore, but a rare, genuine smile of interest and gratitude. "Evander... I quite like it. I'm Florin." It did seem a bit odd that only moments ago she was screaming at this sentient, and now the two were sharing a calm, intelligent conversation. But what did it matter how strange it was? Florin could easily see that he regretted what he did. He must have no choice but to do it, she imagined, but that didn't mean he must enjoy it. It seemed an unfortunate fate for such an unusually polite creature, she thought.
"You're... not going to attack me again, are you?" She asked, her voice more cautious then fearful, as if she were just making sure.

He couldn't help but chuckle slightly at her question. Of course he wouldn't. "Of course not. I swear it." Though, he really had to wonder.. he wouldn't hurt her, not after the guilt and after letting her go. But what if one of his fellows came along and saw him chatting politely with someone he should be taking to the Factory? He would probably be forced to defend his secret agenda or risk getting placed on the Fabricator's deserter list. He supposed he would only know if it actually happened.
Letting that train of thought derail for the moment, he lowered himself a bit, enabling him to reach a normal hand out towards Florin, though not too close, as if asking for her hand. He found himself hoping that she didn't do something like step away; all he really was able to make out because of his lack of decent eyes was her general shape, yet he was careful not to get offensively close, in case she was simply putting on a show of courage.
"It's really nice to meet you, Florin."

She showed no sign of flinching or moving away when he drew closer to her. Any fear she showed of him was drained. It were as if she were speaking to another doll. This sentient was proving to be more likable than many of the normal dolls she'd met, in fact. Though normally she was one to obsess with appearances, she decided now would definitely be time for an exception. How long it had been since she'd seen another who took the time to show a bit of civility in this decaying world. He could be anything for all she cared right now.
She held out her hand as well, allowing him to take it. "And you as well, my dear. It's been ages since I've seen anyone show such courtesy."

This woman was a surprise in her own right.
"Usually kidnapping is not considered courteous, miss." He replied with his head angled at the ground between them; a moment later he bowed his head to place a polite kiss on the back of Florin's hand. Boy, if he didn't feel awkward at this moment, after all of that, he never would feel awkward in any other situation. It was enough to make him rather speechless.
The next suggestion that came into his head was something he didn't expect to get. Not since he'd helped that child, weeks ago, return to the Cathedral when he'd been lost. But it was understandable, he decided, for a lonely individual to enjoy and pursue company.
"Would you.. care to talk a bit, miss Florin?"

"Perhaps not, but letting me go and apologizing is, in my book."
A look of pure delight spread across her face as he kissed her hand. A soft, girlish giggle rose in her throat. Her shoulders rose and tensed as she giggled, making the decorative fur that covered them fluff up somewhat. How fortunate it was that she was taken by probably the only sentient in existence that not only would release her, but then politely introduce himself and wish to have a conversation. Were he a stitchpunk, she would have immediately taken him back to the Clocktower and begged him to join her faction. She still was tempted to do so, but the thought of what the other dolls may do prevented her from dwelling on it further.
The offer for conversation was rather unexpected, but certainly welcome. Florin had completely forgotten about his earlier attempt to sacrifice her to the machine. It was as though it never happened. "I'd be delighted."

Her forgetting his intentions at the start was good for Evander as well. He smiled in response to her reply, feeling an odd but not unwanted flutter of happiness. Some part of him thought of Gypsy, like it always did when he thought of just about anything, but he silently pushed her to the back of his thoughts. She was gone now, and she would always be gone. He needed to accept that. Maybe meeting others would help that along.
It couldn't be a bad thing.
Could it?
His physical features remained warm and cheerful, somehow pulling such an emotion off despite not really having visible optics. "I have to admit, your answer has made me quite happy."
He figured this was as good a place as any. One of his spider legs reached aside and pulled a chunk of brick closer, turning the claws of that leg to delicately brush dirt off of it. He imagined someone like Florin would prefer not to get herself dirty, after all, but this might be the best he could do under the circumstances of their surroundings. "Your seat, madam."

Though normally she would have turned her head at the idea of sitting on something with the slightest bit of dust or dirt on it, she happily accepted. It seemed worth a bit of dust.
"Thank you." She smiled up at him as she sat down, though she was fairly certain he couldn't see it, judging by his lack of optics. At first she'd found that rather disturbing, but she was beginning to accept it. His personality was by far trumping his unusual looks. This sentient was proving to be far more charming than the anima she'd met.
...Charming?
Is that really how she was seeing him?...
...perhaps it was.
"If you don't mind me saying so, I've never met one such as yourself..."

Only once Florin was seated did he follow suit, easily folding his legs beneath him with many years of practice.
He hesitated before replying to her words, though. She must mean the body. They always did. Or, well.. that was what he assumed. Evander ducked his head slightly and brought a hand up to cradle the back of his neck, a rather sheepish gesture. He never really thought about it, but he wondered now what it must be like to walk on only two legs. A lot of people probably wanted to know you.
"I could say the same about you, ma'am. Are you an employee at the Clocktower?" He used he formal name for the building, though the traitors often just called it the "tall tower with the clock on it".

She hadn't meant his body, actually. Though that held true as well.
"I am. I do hope you don't think less of me for it." Now was one of the rare times in her life when she wished she belonged to a different faction. She normally hid her identity, but that was out of protection, not shame, as it was now.
"You work for that machine, yes? I imagine it can't be a very enjoyable line of work for you, judging by your actions." She kept her tone as gentle and polite as possible. Her words held no anger or disdain, just curiosity, and possibly sympathy.

Hell, if she could overlook his employment, he sure could overlook hers. He felt like he owed more than that, though.
"No, of course not. We all have our niche."
He'd spoken to women before. It was no concern, usually.. but right now, he felt so self-conscious about his words. Like a single misplaced sentence would send this kind she-doll hurrying back to the shelter of her home. He wasn't entirely sure why, but the sight of that would hurt more than anything that had happened the past few months.
"I, uh.. yeah.. I mean-- yes. It's not very interesting, unfortunately. I'm not proud of it."
He cleared his throat slightly, then gestured slightly at Florin. "Have you been there long?"

"A while, yes... not my whole life, but some time. It seemed to be the only place I really.... fit in."
She fell silent for a moment as she turned to look him over. She no longer found his appearance frightening or threatening, just... interesting. He had features of an anima, as well as a machine. He clearly wasn't born purely from the Fabrication Machine. He must've been a normal stitchpunk once. She'd heard horror stories of dolls being taken and transformed alive, but never had she believed them. Until now, at least. Florin briefly wondered if he'd been in a Faction, or had a job, or a family.
"You... weren't always like this... were you, dear?" She asked softly, as though speaking to a frightened child, afraid the question may upset him, or worse.

Evander found himself blinking, hidden optics surprised at Florin's question. Had he always been this way?
It took him a few moments to answer, not because he was shy of it but because.. he was honestly trying to remember. But nothing came when called; in fact, it was the opposite - when he tried to pull it forward, it fought against him more and more.
In the end he settled on a small shrug and duck of the head. "I'm.. not really sure. I can't remember very far back, miss Florin."
"I've worked at the Factory for as long as I can remember." He cast a sour, distasteful glance in the direction of those black towers. "Rotten place. I'm sorry I almost took you there."

"I see... I'm terribly sorry... But you seem far too kind to have been born from that dreadful place. If I may ask, why do you stay? Why work for those machines? I know we've only just met, and spoken for a moment, but I can see you're different." Florin shifted her position slightly so she was a bit closer to him, and facing towards him. " There's something in you I've rarely seen, even in anima. Why not leave, and come live with my kind? I can easily see you in a position of authority, or with a family..."
She smiled gently, hoping he wouldn't be offended by her statements or questions. It may be a bit much to ask so suddenly, she knew, but more than anything right now, she wanted to know the reason. It'd only been a short while ago they'd formally met, but already she felt a growing attachment to the sentient. She only hoped he didn't find her comments too intrusive or smothering. The idea of offending him or driving him away seemed to have found a place among her worst fears.

The sentient gave a small shrug, rolling one shoulder idly. "It's all I know. And besides.. they don't take kindly to deserters. Many of those who leave the Factory's employment find themselves quickly hunted down and killed." He sounded as if he'd said that a few times before.. and to be honest, he had. He'd been thinking about such a thing for a long time.
But then he looked down, hardly even paying attention to what she could have been offering him, subtly.. a place to live? More than that?
His mind had fluttered a little bit, back to those he would rather forget. He seemed, for a moment, to forget that he was even in the company of another doll, and it took him some time to return to the conversation. On an unconscious level, he knew that responding to Florin would only result in the truth, and he was afraid.. wouldn't something like this scare her off? Someone so sheltered and protected like Florin.. would the fact that two dolls that he'd considered family gone missing and died while under his care?
"I.." The present returned quickly and without his calling, and he found himself once again staring down and over at Florin. Well, now he was trapped. "I had.. had a family once, but.. I couldn't take care of them."
He was forced to clear his throat quickly, weakly, and he tried to change the subject with a desperation that was felt and even somewhat shown. "How about you? Do you.. have you..?"

Florin had to fight the urge to hit herself as she watched his reaction after she mentioned a family. Had she'd known, she would've avoided the word, or any other word that might have led to it, for that matter. "Oh... I, I'm so sorry. Please, forgive me for mentioning it..."
Normally, compassion and sympathy were foreign to her. Had most any other doll approached her and told her they'd lost their entire family, she'd would've shown little care. Granted, she'd not let that visibly be known; appearances were of high importance to her, and in such a case she'd need to appear kind and sympathetic, but inwardly, she'd have waved them off, excusing their loss as an act of stupidity on their own part, or just the way of life.
But this sentient... no, this gentleman, rather (she found the term more fitting)... for one so kind to suffer such a fate, not only to have lost a family, but to be trapped in such a horrid form of employment at the risk of death... how she wished she could simply ask him to come with her, erase it all, and help him start anew.
She silently agreed with him to quickly change the subject of their conversation. " No. My brother and I are the only family we've both ever known. I suppose few would consider a serious relationship with one in a place such as mine."
