For several moments she stood patiently, rocking back and forth on her heels and glancing around at the surrounding corridor. It wasn’t particularly interesting, so her attention quickly returned to the closed door. As seconds ticked by and the sound of metal on stone refused to cease, she began to grow curious. Perhaps he wasn’t in? No, if that were the case then there wouldn’t be a strange sound emanating from his room. What if somebody else was in the room, and felt it was impolite to answer the door unless their host was present? That was a possibility. But what if the person in the room was an intruder?
“Haha, no!” she laughed aloud, glancing down at her feet. “That would be silly.” But the thought wouldn’t leave her alone. She couldn’t imagine an intruder making so much noise, though. Unless they were a beast! An uncouth, metal-munching beast, come to destroy the inspector’s work! Or worse, take it back to the Factory so it could be used against the stitchpunks of the world! It was a completely viable assumption. No more or less viable than the chance of him simply not hearing her over the strange noise, but still viable.
However, confronting a beast when she had nothing more than a small stick of metal to defend herself with was not her preferred choice of action. Although the creature would need to be small in order to fit into a stitchpunk’s home, it would also have to be incredibly sneaky to slip in undetected, and powerful to destroy or steal the investigator’s work. So instead she settled on the temporarily safer option of leaning lightly against the door and knocking again.
“Sorry to disturb you!” she called, only one shoulder resting against the material of the door as she spoke, her hands still firmly gripping the handle of the tool. “I simply want to return something you have lost!” When she fell silent again, she pressed the side of her head to the surface so that any sounds produced in the room could reach her audio receptors more easily. If the strange sound continued unabated then she would have to come up with a new plan to immobilise this apparent foe.

"I see," said Kuu after Abbot confirmed the case he wanted the investigator to take. Saying such was just to show he was still paying attention to the words as well as the on the grinder his optics remained focused on. "Repaying someone with just a thanks. Usually I'd never consider such a job... ," Kuu then quietly added in comment, not finishing his statement as Abbot made note of the one at the door. "Yeap. Whoever it is can wait, though," he said in reply to the elder, still focused on the last two fingers he had to grind. Before he could get to the last, Kuu heard the muffled words saying something about an item of his being lost. At this, the stichtpunk dropped his hands to the side and he released Abbot's hand with a huff. "Would you excuse me a moment?" Kuu then asked the elder, leaving a slight pause before he turned and left the shop room. The pause he made was fairly brief, and didn't allow much for a reply. Kuu stomped through the inner doorway, approaching the outer door while resisting the urge to yell at the stranger just outside through the wood. He'd rather do it to the strangers face. The way he stomped and didn't yet answer 543's call right away could possibly have made him sound like something else. Either way, the door swiftly swung open revealing Kuu's indignant facial expression to her.

"I'd be willing to do more for her than simply thank her, but the fact that I didn't even do that much tears at me." He said in barely a whisper. The sparks were captivating as they flew from between his fingers and the grindstone. He didn't betray his annoyance that Kuu refused to go to the door for the lady on the other side. But it was his choice; it's not like he could for him to do anything.
But he couldn't help but smile a bit when Kuu went to the door at the mention of a lost item. He certainly cherishes his own items. he thought silently, nodding at Kuu as he went off to the door.
Normally Abbot would have sat their in the chair and relaxed, but his curiosity overwhelmed him. He groaned softly and quietly as he put his hands on the arms of the seat and pushed himself onto his feet again, straightening his vest and stepping quietly to the door to the front room, peering through the doorway. When Kuu opened the door, he could see the lady on the other side of it, holding an item that he assumed was Kuu's.

Even as she heard footsteps advance she remained close to the door, listening to the new sounds and trying to determine whether she should be afraid of them or not. As far as she could tell, there was only one set of footsteps to be heard, which was unusual for a beast, so when they came close to the door she stepped back quickly, although probably not quickly enough for the occupant of the home to not assume that she had been leaning on his door.
As she adjusted the angle her head was tilted at to meet he gaze of the figure in the doorway, her face held an expression of surprise as her vision confirmed that it was not only a stitchpunk in the room, but the owner of the home. This expression was immediately replaced by one of welcoming and greeting, and then again by one of apology when she noticed his own facial response. All of this in the space of maybe two seconds.
“Hi,” she began in a somewhat meek tone which suited her slightly defensive posture. Her expression flickered vaguely for a moment, as if she couldn’t settle on a mood to approach him with, but she maintained eye contact with him regardless, and after a half-second pause she stood up straight and spoke again, having chosen to adopt a business-like manner. “Terribly sorry to have disturbed you; I found this earlier and I believe it to be yours.” With one hand she held up the tool for him to see and take it from her if he liked, while her other arm remained stationary, folded at the elbow eith her forearm tucked neatly behind her. Although she noticed a little bit of movement in the room behind him, her gaze didn’t move from his at all, her focus politely unwavering.

The narrowed and slanted lids of Kuu's optics expressed his displeasure with the stranger. As soon as 543 was done talking, he snatched the file from her hand and inspected the mark just below the rough of the file where the letter 'K' was inscribed. "Yeah, this is mine alright," he stated with a calm nod, before setting his sights back on 543. "Let me tell you something, tough. See, I don't lose things. It's not within my capacity to do so. I'll tell you what I think happened, though. You entered my house when I was gone, took my tool, left, then after a while the guilt of breaking and entering sunk in and drew you back here." All the more while Kuu explained his theory, he had to keep from giving hints of his own "shortcomings" from coming to light as well. This ragdoll was one he knew, as he had been "investigating" her for some time the last month. After some complaints of local residents to number 1 himself involving missing personal effects, Kuu had gotten the job to look into it. When he did though, the investigator hadn't the slightest idea he would run into so much trouble as he had. The trouble wasn't even caused by 543, but rather the feelings that welled within Kuu himself when he first laid his optics on her.
I caught her in the act. Though,
...all she stole was a mere small piece of green cellophane.
I tracked her down, of course. I still had a job to do. But, still...
I saw her use that cellophane as a wrap around a light bulb, which then became a decorative lamp.
The artistic quality of it was... intoxicating...
almost as much as that slender copper frame, wrapped neatly with simple burlap with patches of polyester.
Simple, yet all in all...
"Beautiful mess you got yourself into." he stated as he pushed back his feelings to keep his own charade going with the calm and serious stare. "While it's a brave thing to come back to the scene of the crime, I suppose you weren't expecting I'd see through the act of innocence," after saying this then, Kuu took a sudden step forward and grasped 543 firmly by her arm. It was more abrupt than violent, and his grip while being firm was gentle enough. "...and place you under house arrest." he added lastly as his face came close to hers for just a moment. He then caught himself, backed off a little, and then dragged the "criminal" into his abode before slamming the door shut behind them.
